​How to Enter

Employers expect candidates who are applying for Civil Quantity Surveyor jobs to have either a National Diploma in Quantity Surveying or a Bachelor of Construction, and have a detailed understanding of New Zealand’s local by-laws, building regulations and legislation. Any experience with the Commercial, Residential or Civil Construction industries, or work involving calculations or accounting, will also be hugely beneficial. However, we often see New Zealand employers request the following personal requirements:

  • Has an inquisitive and creative mind
  • Can work well under pressure and to tight deadlines


Typical Responsibilities

A Civil Quantity Surveyor may do some or all the following responsibilities:


  • Understanding building plans
  • Estimating and reporting material and labour costs
  • Reporting on civil building projects progression and costs
  • Visiting building sites
  • Giving advice in value management, such as a comparing building costs to similar buildings

Salary Range

45K – 70K per annum (NZD)
