Civil Commercial Manager Jobs

A Civil Commercial Manager in Australia is responsible for overseeing the financial and contractual aspects of civil engineering construction projects, ensuring projects are delivered within budget and adhere to contractual obligations by managing costs, contract negotiations, procurement, and maintaining client relationships, often working closely with quantity surveyors and other project stakeholders to monitor project finances and identify potential cost risks; essentially acting as the "financial guardian" of the project. 


Key responsibilities of a Civil Commercial Manager:

Budgeting and Cost Control:

  • Develop detailed project budgets based on project scope and design. 
  • Track project expenditures against the budget and identify cost variances. 
  • Implement cost-saving measures and mitigation strategies for potential cost overruns. 


Contract Management:

  • Review and negotiate contracts with subcontractors and suppliers. 
  • Manage contract variations and claims, ensuring proper documentation and adherence to contractual terms. 
  • Resolve contractual disputes with stakeholders. 


Procurement:

  • Lead the procurement process for materials and services, including vendor selection and contract negotiation. 
  • Manage supplier relationships and performance. 


Financial Reporting:

  • Prepare regular financial reports for project stakeholders, highlighting key performance indicators (KPIs). 
  • Analyze project financials to identify areas for improvement. 


Stakeholder Management:

  • Maintain strong relationships with clients, designers, contractors, and other project stakeholders. 
  • Communicate project financial status and potential risks clearly to relevant parties. 


Risk Management:

  • Identify and assess potential commercial risks on projects. 
  • Develop risk mitigation strategies to minimize financial exposure. 


Required Skills and Qualifications:

  • Strong understanding of civil engineering principles and construction practices. 
  • Proficiency in quantity surveying techniques and contract administration. 
  • Expertise in project management tools and software.
