Civil Contract Manager Jobs

A Civil Contracts Manager in Australia is responsible for overseeing and managing all aspects of construction contracts on civil engineering projects, including negotiating terms, ensuring compliance with legal and industry standards, monitoring project progress against contractual obligations, resolving disputes, and collaborating with various stakeholders to deliver projects on time, within budget, and to the required quality standards; essentially acting as the key commercial point of contact for the project, ensuring the company's interests are protected throughout the contract lifecycle. 


Key responsibilities:

  • Actively participate in contract negotiations with clients and subcontractors, including price, payment schedules, scope of work, and risk allocation. 
  • Manage all aspects of the contract lifecycle, including reviewing contract documents, identifying potential risks, and ensuring compliance with contractual terms. 
  • Monitor project costs, track variations, and manage change orders to optimize project profitability. 
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with clients, subcontractors, consultants, and internal teams to facilitate smooth project execution. 
  • Identify and mitigate potential commercial risks associated with contracts, including legal and contractual issues. 
  • Proactively address and resolve contractual disputes through negotiation and mediation, if necessary. 
  • Prepare regular progress reports on project performance, including financial status, schedule adherence, and key contract metrics. 
  • Ensure adherence to relevant Australian construction laws, regulations, and industry standards. 


Required Skills:

  • Strong understanding of contract law, construction practices, and commercial principles 
  • Proven ability to negotiate complex contract terms and achieve mutually beneficial agreements 
  • Capability to analyze project data and identify potential risks and opportunities 
  • Excellent written and verbal communication to effectively interact with diverse stakeholders 
  • Ability to identify and resolve contractual issues promptly and efficiently 
  • Understanding of project management methodologies to monitor project progress and manage deadlines
