An Energy Contract Manager in Australia is responsible for negotiating, managing, and overseeing all aspects of energy supply contracts for a company, ensuring optimal pricing, terms, and compliance with regulations, while actively monitoring market fluctuations and identifying cost-saving opportunities within the Australian energy landscape; requiring strong commercial acumen, legal knowledge of energy contracts, and experience in the Australian electricity market.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead the negotiation process for energy supply contracts with retailers, including price, volume, fixed/variable pricing structures, contract duration, and key performance indicators (KPIs).
- Continuously monitor Australian energy market trends, price fluctuations, regulatory changes, and potential risks to inform contract strategy.
- Collaborate with legal teams to draft and review complex energy contracts, ensuring compliance with relevant Australian regulations and company policies.
- Identify and mitigate potential risks associated with energy contracts, including price volatility, supply disruptions, and regulatory changes.
- Track contract compliance, energy consumption patterns, and invoice accuracy, addressing any discrepancies with suppliers.
- Analyze energy usage data to identify cost-saving opportunities, such as load shifting, demand response programs, and supplier switching.
- Collaborate with internal stakeholders including operations, finance, and procurement teams to ensure aligned energy procurement strategies.
- Build and maintain strong relationships with energy suppliers, negotiating favorable terms and resolving any contract disputes.
Required Skills and Qualifications:
- Thorough knowledge of the electricity market structure, regulations, pricing mechanisms, and key players in Australia.
- Strong analytical skills to evaluate complex energy contracts, assess pricing options, and identify cost-saving opportunities.
- Familiarity with legal aspects of energy contracts, including terms and conditions, compliance requirements, and dispute resolution mechanisms.
- Proven ability to negotiate favorable terms with energy suppliers, balancing cost and value.
- Proficiency in analyzing energy consumption data to identify trends and inform contract strategies.
- Effective communication and collaboration skills to work with cross-functional teams across the organization.
Relevant Experience:
- Previous experience in energy contract management within an Australian company, ideally within a large industrial or commercial setting.
- Proven track record of successfully negotiating and managing energy supply contracts.
- Knowledge of energy management systems and tools.
