Control System Engineer Jobs

An Energy Control System Engineer in Australia is responsible for designing, implementing, and maintaining automated control systems within energy generation, transmission, and distribution networks, focusing on optimizing energy efficiency, reliability, and sustainability by utilizing advanced control algorithms, data analysis, and integration with various energy sources, often working closely with power system engineers and other stakeholders across the energy sector. 


Key responsibilities may include:

System design and development:

  • Designing and engineering energy control systems for power plants, substations, and distribution grids, including SCADA (Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition) systems. 
  • Selecting appropriate hardware and software components for control systems, considering compatibility and performance requirements. 
  • Developing control logic and algorithms to optimize energy production, load balancing, and grid stability. 


Implementation and integration:

  • Installing and configuring control system hardware and software on-site. 
  • Integrating energy control systems with existing power systems, including communication protocols and data interfaces. 
  • Performing system testing and commissioning to ensure proper functionality 


Operations and maintenance:

  • Monitoring system performance and identifying potential issues through data analysis 
  • Troubleshooting system faults and implementing corrective actions 
  • Providing ongoing maintenance and updates to control systems 


Project management:

  • Collaborating with project teams to define project scope, timelines, and budgets for energy control system implementations 
  • Managing project deliverables and ensuring compliance with industry standards and regulations 


Required skills and qualifications:

Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Control Engineering, or a related field

  • Strong understanding of power systems, including generation, transmission, and distribution principles
  • Expertise in control system design, programming languages (e.g., PLC, SCADA)
  • Knowledge of data analysis and visualization tools
  • Familiarity with relevant industry standards and regulations
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills to work effectively with cross-functional teams
