Cost Controller Jobs

An Oil and Gas Cost Controller in Australia is responsible for managing and monitoring project costs throughout the entire lifecycle of an oil and gas project, ensuring it stays within budget by tracking expenses like labor, materials, and subcontracts, analyzing variances, preparing detailed cost reports, and collaborating with project management to identify and address cost risks and opportunities, all while adhering to industry standards and company procedures within the Australian oil and gas sector. 

Key responsibilities:

• Develop project budgets based on project scope and work breakdown structure, create cost forecasts, and regularly update them based on project progress and performance. 
• Track project costs against the budget, identify variances, analyze the root causes, and implement corrective actions. 
• Prepare detailed cost reports, including earned value analysis, variance analysis, and trend analysis, to provide insights into project financial health. 
• Assess the cost impact of proposed changes to the project scope and manage change orders accordingly. 
• Collaborate with procurement teams to evaluate supplier quotes and ensure cost-effective procurement practices. 
• Regularly communicate project cost status to project managers, senior management, and other stakeholders. 
• Ensure compliance with company financial policies and procedures related to cost control. 

Required Skills and Experience:

• Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, or a related field 
• Proven experience in cost control within the oil and gas industry, preferably in an Australian context 
• Expertise in project management methodologies, including Earned Value Management (EVM) 
• Proficiency in cost control software and financial reporting tools 
• Strong analytical skills and ability to interpret financial data 
• Excellent communication and collaboration skills to work effectively with cross-functional teams
