CP Technician Jobs
An Oil and Gas CP Technician in Australia is responsible for conducting routine inspections, maintenance, and repairs on Cathodic Protection (CP) systems on oil and gas pipelines, storage tanks, and other infrastructure, ensuring the integrity of the assets by preventing corrosion through electrical current application, adhering to strict safety regulations and Australian industry standards.
Key Responsibilities:
- Performing regular field surveys to measure pipe-to-soil potentials and identify areas requiring CP adjustments using specialized equipment like a pipe-to-soil potential meter, current interruption surveys (CIPS), and DC voltage gradient (DCVG) surveys.
- Interpreting survey data to assess the effectiveness of existing CP systems, identifying corrosion hotspots, and recommending corrective actions.
- Troubleshooting and repairing CP system components like rectifiers, anodes, ground beds, and cabling, including replacement of failed components.
- Assisting with the installation of new CP systems on new pipelines or infrastructure upgrades.
- Maintaining detailed records of CP survey results, maintenance activities, and compliance reports according to relevant Australian standards (AS 2832).
- Adhering to strict safety protocols while working in potentially hazardous environments, including confined spaces, high voltage, and remote locations.
Required Skills and Qualifications:
- Strong understanding of corrosion mechanisms, cathodic protection theory, electrical principles, and relevant Australian standards.
- Proven experience in conducting CP surveys, data analysis, and maintenance activities in the oil and gas industry.
- Ability to operate specialized CP testing equipment like pipe-to-soil potential meters, CIPS units, DCVG instruments, and rectifiers.
- Commitment to safety procedures and working practices in hazardous environments.
- May require relevant certifications from NACE International (National Association of Corrosion Engineers) or other recognized organizations.
