Electrical Inspector Jobs

An Electrical Inspector in Australia is responsible for conducting thorough inspections of electrical installations in buildings and infrastructure projects to ensure compliance with local electrical safety regulations, Australian Standards, and building codes, by verifying proper wiring, equipment functionality, and overall safety standards, often issuing reports detailing any non-compliance issues and requiring corrective actions to be taken by contractors or builders; they may also investigate complaints, educate stakeholders on electrical safety, and collaborate with regulatory bodies to maintain compliance across the industry. 


Key responsibilities may include:

  • Visiting construction sites, residential properties, or commercial buildings to inspect electrical installations, including wiring, fixtures, appliances, switchboards, and grounding systems. 
  • Checking against relevant Australian Standards (AS/NZS 3000) and electrical safety regulations to ensure installations meet required safety standards. 
  • Documenting inspection details, identifying non-compliance issues, and creating detailed reports outlining required corrective actions. 
  • Issuing notices to rectify non-compliant installations, potentially initiating follow-up inspections to verify corrections. 
  • Responding to complaints regarding electrical safety issues and investigating potential breaches 
  • Educating builders, electricians, and property owners on electrical safety practices and regulations 
  • Working with relevant regulatory bodies to enforce electrical safety laws 


Required skills and qualifications:

  • A recognized electrician's license is typically required to become an Electrical Inspector. 
  • Comprehensive understanding of electrical principles, wiring methods, and relevant Australian Standards 
  • Deep knowledge of electrical safety regulations and legislation at the state and federal level 
  • Proficiency in performing detailed electrical inspections and identifying potential hazards 
  • Ability to clearly document findings and generate accurate inspection reports 
  • Effective communication with contractors, property owners, and regulatory bodies
