A Graduate Surveyor in Australia is a recent surveying degree graduate who assists experienced surveyors in conducting field surveys, collecting and analysing spatial data using specialised equipment like GPS, total stations, and laser scanners, to accurately determine and map land boundaries, property dimensions, and other spatial features, while adhering to surveying regulations and safety protocols, typically working under the supervision of senior surveyors to gain practical experience in the field.
Key responsibilities:
- Fieldwork:
- Assisting in conducting field surveys, taking measurements, recording data, and setting out land boundaries using surveying equipment.
- Data processing:
- Analysing collected survey data using specialised software to generate accurate maps, plans, and reports.
- Boundary calculations:
- Assisting in calculating property boundaries and elevations based on survey data.
- Map creation:
- Preparing detailed maps and plans of land parcels, including property boundaries and features.
- Compliance:
- Adhering to relevant surveying regulations and safety procedures during fieldwork.
- Collaboration:
- Working alongside senior surveyors and other professionals like engineers and planners.
- Technical skills:
- Proficiency in using surveying software, GIS applications, and data analysis tools.
Required qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Surveying, Spatial Science, or a related field
- Strong understanding of surveying principles and techniques
- Ability to operate surveying equipment such as total stations, GPS devices, and laser scanners
- Good analytical and problem-solving skills
