Network Performance Engineer Jobs

A Network Performance Engineer in Australia is responsible for monitoring, analyzing, and optimizing the performance of an organization's network infrastructure, identifying bottlenecks, troubleshooting issues, and implementing improvements to ensure optimal network speed, reliability, and uptime, often utilizing advanced network monitoring tools and protocols to proactively address potential performance concerns; they typically work closely with other IT teams to identify and resolve network performance issues impacting business operations. 


Key responsibilities may include:

  • Actively monitoring network performance metrics like latency, bandwidth utilization, packet loss, and throughput using network monitoring tools to identify potential issues. 
  • Deep-dive analysis of network performance data to pinpoint bottlenecks, identify trends, and diagnose root causes of performance degradation. 
  • Investigating and resolving network performance issues related to network devices, configurations, protocols, and application performance. 
  • Proactively assessing network capacity needs, forecasting future bandwidth requirements, and planning for network upgrades to maintain optimal performance. 
  • Implementing network optimization techniques such as traffic shaping, load balancing, and QoS (Quality of Service) configurations to prioritize critical applications. 
  • Generating detailed reports on network performance metrics, identifying areas for improvement, and documenting network configuration changes. 
  • Working with other IT teams like system administrators, security engineers, and application developers to identify and resolve network performance issues impacting applications. 


Required skills and qualifications:

  • Strong understanding of networking protocols like TCP/IP, BGP, OSPF, MPLS, and network performance metrics. 
  • Expertise in network monitoring tools (e.g., SolarWinds, PRTG, Cisco Prime) and data analysis techniques. 
  • Experience with network troubleshooting and problem-solving methodologies. 
  • Knowledge of network security best practices and their impact on network performance. 
  • Familiarity with cloud networking technologies and potential performance considerations 
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills 
  • Strong communication and collaboration abilities to work with cross-functional teams 


Relevant certifications:

Cisco Certified Network Associate (CCNA), Cisco Certified Network Professional (CCNP), Juniper Networks Certified Associate (JNCIA), and Network
