A Trade Operations Manager in Australia is responsible for overseeing the smooth execution of all trade activities within a company, ensuring compliance with regulations, managing trade documentation, coordinating logistics, and optimizing operational efficiency across import and export processes, often requiring a deep understanding of Australian trade laws and customs procedures. 


Key responsibilities may include:

Trade Documentation Management:

  • Reviewing and approving export and import documentation (e.g., invoices, packing slips, bills of lading, customs declarations) to ensure accuracy and compliance with relevant trade regulations. 
  • Managing the submission of customs declarations and related paperwork to Australian Customs and Border Protection (ABF). 
  • Monitoring and resolving any customs clearance issues or discrepancies. 


Logistics Coordination:

  • Arranging freight forwarding services for international shipments, including selecting appropriate carriers and negotiating rates. 
  • Tracking shipments throughout the logistics chain and managing potential delays or disruptions. 
  • Coordinating with warehouses and distribution centers for efficient storage and delivery of goods. 


Trade Compliance:

  • Staying updated on Australian trade regulations and ensuring the company adheres to all relevant laws and policies regarding import/export activities. 
  • Managing trade compliance risks and identifying potential issues related to sanctions, tariffs, and export controls. 
  • Implementing procedures to mitigate trade compliance risks and ensure proper documentation is maintained. 


Operational Efficiency:

  • Analyzing trade data to identify areas for improvement and implement process optimization strategies. 
  • Streamlining trade workflows to minimize costs and improve turnaround times. 
  • Managing trade-related budgets and cost controls. 


Stakeholder Management:

  • Collaborating with internal departments such as sales, marketing, and finance to ensure seamless trade operations. 
  • Building relationships with external partners including customs brokers, freight forwarders, and international suppliers. 
  • Resolving trade-related issues with customers and suppliers. 


Required Skills and Qualifications:

  • Strong understanding of Australian trade laws and customs regulations
  • Expertise in international trade documentation and procedures
  • Experience with customs clearance processes and related systems
  • Proven ability to manage logistics operations and coordinate shipments
  • Strong analytical skills to identify and resolve trade compliance issues
  • Excellent communication and negotiation skills to interact with stakeholders
  • Proficiency in trade management software and systems
  • Bachelor's degree in business, logistics, international trade, or a related field
