An "Energy Planning Manager" in Australia is responsible for overseeing the strategic planning and development of energy projects, including renewable energy sources, by analyzing market trends, regulatory landscapes, and infrastructure needs, while coordinating with stakeholders to ensure efficient and sustainable energy supply across the country; key duties often involve managing project timelines, cost analysis, environmental impact assessments, and stakeholder engagement to achieve compliance with Australian energy policies and regulations. 


Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop long-term energy planning strategies to meet future energy demand, considering factors like renewable energy integration, grid stability, and carbon emissions reduction targets. 
  • Monitor energy market trends, including electricity prices, demand patterns, and emerging technologies to inform planning decisions. 
  • Lead the planning and development of new energy projects, including solar, wind, hydro, and battery storage, from feasibility studies to regulatory approvals. 
  • Ensure all energy projects comply with relevant Australian energy regulations and environmental laws. 
  • Collaborate with government agencies, utilities, community groups, and landowners to manage stakeholder expectations and address concerns throughout the planning process. 
  • Conduct financial assessments of potential energy projects, including capital expenditure, operating costs, and return on investment. 
  • Analyze grid capacity and identify necessary upgrades to successfully integrate new renewable energy sources. 
  • Oversee the environmental impact assessment process for energy projects, ensuring compliance with relevant environmental regulations. 
  • Lead a team of energy planners, analysts, and engineers to execute project plans and achieve strategic objectives. 


Required Skills and Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in engineering, environmental science, economics, or a related field 
  • Proven experience in energy planning, project management, or related roles within the Australian energy sector 
  • Strong understanding of the Australian energy market, regulations, and policy landscape 
  • Expertise in energy modeling, forecasting, and data analysis tools 
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement skills 
  • Ability to manage complex projects with multiple stakeholders and tight deadlines
