Power system Engineer Jobs

A Power System Engineer in Australia is responsible for designing, analyzing, and optimizing electrical power systems across generation, transmission, and distribution networks, conducting detailed power system studies, modeling grid connections, and ensuring reliable and efficient power delivery, often working on large-scale renewable energy projects while collaborating with stakeholders like network service providers and government agencies; requiring strong technical expertise in power system analysis tools like PSSE and PSCAD, and a deep understanding of Australian electricity grid regulations and standards. 


Key responsibilities may include:

  • Performing load flow analysis, short circuit studies, stability analysis, and grid connection studies to assess system performance and identify potential issues. 
  • Developing and submitting technical documentation for grid connection applications to network service providers, including power system models and impact assessments. 
  • Designing and analyzing power systems for large-scale renewable energy projects like solar and wind farms, considering grid integration challenges. 
  • Contributing to the design and optimization of electrical substation layouts, including equipment selection and sizing. 
  • Preparing detailed technical reports summarizing findings from power system studies and proposing solutions to identified issues. 
  • Supporting project teams by providing technical expertise, managing project timelines, and ensuring compliance with project requirements. 
  • Collaborating with clients, regulatory bodies, and other engineering disciplines to ensure project goals are met. 


Required Skills and Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering
  • Strong understanding of power system theory, including power flow analysis, stability analysis, and fault calculations
  • Proficiency in power system simulation software like PSS®E, PSCAD, or DIgSILENT
  • Experience with grid connection applications and regulatory requirements in Australia
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills to work with diverse stakeholders
