A "Power Project Engineer" in Australia is an engineering professional responsible for overseeing the technical aspects of power generation projects, including design, planning, construction, and commissioning of power plants, substations, and transmission lines, ensuring projects are delivered on time, within budget, and to required safety and quality standards, often working closely with contractors and stakeholders throughout the project lifecycle. 


Key responsibilities may include:

  • Developing detailed project plans, including engineering specifications, design drawings, and technical documentation, considering factors like site conditions, regulatory requirements, and environmental impact. 
  • Evaluating equipment options, performing load calculations, and ensuring system compatibility for optimal power generation and distribution. 
  • Overseeing construction activities on site, including contractor management, quality control, and safety compliance, ensuring adherence to project schedules and budgets. 
  • Leading the process of testing and commissioning power plant equipment, ensuring proper functionality and performance before handover. 
  • Collaborating with clients, regulatory bodies, contractors, and internal teams to address technical concerns, manage project updates, and resolve issues. 
  • Monitoring project expenditures, identifying potential cost overruns, and implementing cost-saving measures. 
  • Ensuring adherence to relevant Australian engineering standards, safety regulations, and environmental guidelines. 


Required skills and qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or a related field 
  • Experience in power generation projects, including knowledge of power plant design, equipment selection, and grid integration 
  • Strong understanding of project management principles, including scheduling, budgeting, and risk management 
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills for stakeholder engagement 
  • Proficiency in engineering design software and analysis tools 
  • Familiarity with Australian electrical codes and regulations
