Rail engineer Jobs
A Rail Engineer in Australia is responsible for designing, constructing, maintaining, and improving railway systems, including tracks, signalling, stations, and related infrastructure. They work on projects that ensure safe, efficient, and sustainable rail transport solutions.
Key Responsibilities:
- Design & Planning: Develop railway infrastructure designs, including track layouts, signaling systems, and station plans.
- Construction & Maintenance: Oversee the installation and maintenance of rail infrastructure, ensuring compliance with safety and quality standards.
- Project Management: Manage rail projects from conception to completion, including budgeting, scheduling, and coordination with contractors.
- Safety & Compliance: Ensure all railway systems meet Australian safety regulations and engineering codes.
- Testing & Commissioning: Conduct tests on rail systems, including tracks, electrical components, and signaling, to ensure optimal performance.
- Technical Support: Provide expertise in troubleshooting rail system issues and recommend solutions.
- Sustainability & Innovation: Implement environmentally friendly and innovative engineering practices in railway development.
Skills & Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Civil, Mechanical, or Electrical Engineering (specialization in railway engineering is a plus).
- Strong knowledge of Australian railway standards and regulations.
- Experience in rail design software (e.g., Bentley Rail Track, AutoCAD, MicroStation).
- Understanding of signaling systems, track design, and electrification.
- Project management skills, including experience with stakeholder management.
- Strong problem-solving and analytical abilities.
- Effective communication and teamwork skills.
Job Requirements:
- Minimum 2-5 years of experience in rail engineering or related fields.
- Familiarity with Australian rail safety standards (e.g., Rail Safety National Law).
- Experience with major rail projects (e.g., Sydney Metro, Melbourne Metro, Inland Rail).
- Willingness to travel to project sites when necessary.
