A Rotating Equipment Engineer in Australia is responsible for maintaining the technical integrity and optimal performance of rotating machinery like pumps, compressors, and turbines within an industrial facility, ensuring safe operation by developing and implementing maintenance strategies, troubleshooting issues, and optimizing equipment reliability and availability through analysis of condition monitoring data, all while adhering to relevant industry standards and regulations. 


Key responsibilities may include:

Technical Expertise:

  • Performing detailed technical assessments of rotating equipment to identify potential issues and predict failures. 
  • Analyzing vibration data, temperature monitoring, and other condition monitoring parameters to diagnose equipment problems. 
  • Selecting appropriate spare parts and ensuring proper maintenance procedures are followed. 

Maintenance Strategy Development:

  • Developing and implementing preventative maintenance plans for rotating equipment based on equipment condition and operational requirements. 
  • Designing and managing maintenance schedules for shutdowns and turnarounds. 
  • Collaborating with maintenance teams to ensure effective execution of maintenance tasks. 

Troubleshooting and Repair:

  • Investigating and resolving complex rotating equipment failures, including root cause analysis. 
  • Coordinating with external vendors for repairs and overhauls of critical equipment. 
  • Overseeing the installation and commissioning of new rotating equipment. 

Performance Optimization:

  • Monitoring equipment performance and identifying opportunities for efficiency improvements. 
  • Implementing upgrades and modifications to enhance equipment reliability and lifespan. 
  • Analyzing operational data to identify trends and potential issues. 

Compliance and Safety:

  • Ensuring adherence to all relevant safety regulations and industry standards for rotating equipment 
  • Conducting risk assessments and implementing safety procedures for maintenance activities 


Required Skills and Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field 
  • Proven experience in rotating equipment maintenance and troubleshooting within an industrial setting 
  • Strong understanding of vibration analysis, condition monitoring techniques, and reliability centered maintenance (RCM) principles 
  • Proficient in using engineering software for data analysis and design 
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills to work effectively with cross-functional teams
