Signalling engineer Jobs

A Signalling Engineer in Australia is responsible for designing, implementing, maintaining, and upgrading railway signaling systems to ensure the safe and efficient movement of trains. They work on major rail projects, ensuring compliance with Australian safety standards and operational requirements.



Key Responsibilities:

  • Design & Development: Develop and modify railway signaling systems, including interlockings, control systems, and track circuits.
  • Installation & Maintenance: Oversee the installation, testing, and commissioning of signaling equipment.
  • Safety & Compliance: Ensure all signaling systems comply with Australian railway safety standards (e.g., AS 4292).
  • System Testing & Troubleshooting: Conduct fault-finding and system validation to ensure reliable operation.
  • Project Management: Work with multidisciplinary teams on rail projects, coordinating with civil, electrical, and software engineers.
  • Software & Technology Integration: Implement advanced signaling technologies, including CBTC (Communication-Based Train Control) and ETCS (European Train Control System).
  • Documentation & Reporting: Prepare technical reports, design specifications, and safety case documents.


Skills & Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical, Electronics, or Railway Engineering (or related field).
  • Knowledge of railway signaling principles, including interlocking, ATP, and train detection systems.
  • Experience with signaling design tools (e.g., MicroStation, AutoCAD, Siemens Trackside Design tools).
  • Understanding of rail safety regulations, such as AS 4292 and Rail Safety National Law (RSNL).
  • Experience with CBTC, ETCS, or conventional signaling systems.
  • Strong problem-solving and analytical skills.
  • Effective communication and teamwork abilities.


Job Requirements:

  • 2-5 years of experience in railway signaling design, testing, or maintenance.
  • Familiarity with Australian rail networks (e.g., Sydney Trains, Metro Trains Melbourne, Queensland Rail).
  • Ability to work in both office and site environments.
  • Willingness to travel for project work when required.
