A Survey Technician in Australia is responsible for collecting field data using specialised surveying equipment like GPS receivers and total stations, to accurately measure and map land features, property boundaries, and topographic details, assisting surveyors in creating detailed plans for construction and land development projects by recording observations, performing calculations, and producing digital maps using surveying software; often working outdoors in various terrains and weather conditions while adhering to safety protocols.
Key responsibilities:
- Field data collection: Operate surveying instruments like GPS units, total stations, and laser levels to measure angles, distances, and elevations on site.
- Data recording: Accurately record field observations and measurements in digital formats.
- Topographical mapping: Create detailed maps of land features including terrain, vegetation, buildings, and utilities.
- Boundary surveying: Assist in establishing and marking property boundaries.
- Data processing: Utilise surveying software to process collected data, perform calculations, and generate digital plans.
- Coordinate with surveyors: Collaborate with surveyors to ensure field data aligns with project requirements.
- Quality control: Regularly check and calibrate surveying equipment to maintain accuracy.
- Safety compliance: Adhere to safety procedures when working outdoors in various environments.
