Traffic Engineer Jobs
A Traffic Engineer in Australia is responsible for designing, analyzing, and implementing traffic management systems to improve road safety, reduce congestion, and enhance transportation efficiency. They work with government agencies, urban planners, and private firms to develop sustainable traffic solutions.
Key Responsibilities:
- Traffic Flow Analysis: Assess traffic patterns, congestion points, and road capacity to optimize transportation networks.
- Road Safety & Design: Design and implement road safety measures, traffic signals, intersections, and pedestrian crossings.
- Traffic Modelling & Simulation: Use specialized software to predict traffic behavior and assess the impact of new road projects.
- Transport Planning & Policy: Develop transport plans that align with local and national infrastructure policies.
- Stakeholder Consultation: Work with government authorities, city councils, and community groups on traffic-related projects.
- Sustainable Transport Solutions: Promote cycling, pedestrian-friendly infrastructure, and public transport integration.
- Compliance & Regulations: Ensure adherence to Austroads Guidelines, Australian Road Rules, and state transport regulations.
- Project Management: Oversee traffic studies, road safety audits, and infrastructure improvement projects.
Skills & Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering, Traffic Engineering, or Transport Planning.
- Strong knowledge of traffic engineering principles, road safety, and intersection design.
- Experience with traffic modelling software (e.g., SIDRA, VISSIM, AIMSUN, TransCAD).
- Proficiency in AutoCAD, Civil 3D, and GIS software.
- Understanding of Austroads Guidelines, RMS (NSW), TMR (QLD), and VicRoads Standards.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement abilities.
Job Requirements:
- 2-5 years of experience in traffic engineering or transport planning.
- Experience conducting traffic impact assessments and road safety audits.
- Ability to interpret traffic data, crash reports, and road network performance metrics.
- Willingness to work in both office and field environments for site assessments.
