Transport Modeller Jobs

A Transport Modeller in Australia is responsible for developing and analyzing transport models to assess traffic patterns, infrastructure projects, and policy impacts. They use specialized software to predict future transport demand, optimize road networks, and improve public transport systems.



Key Responsibilities:

  • Transport Demand Modelling: Develop and calibrate models to predict travel patterns and future transport demand.
  • Traffic Flow Analysis: Simulate and analyze vehicle, pedestrian, and public transport movements.
  • Scenario Testing & Forecasting: Evaluate the impact of infrastructure projects, urban developments, and policy changes.
  • GIS & Data Analysis: Collect, interpret, and visualize transport data using Geographic Information Systems (GIS).
  • Public Transport Planning: Assess and optimize bus, train, and tram networks for efficiency and reliability.
  • Stakeholder Consultation: Work with government agencies, urban planners, and engineering teams on transport projects.
  • Compliance & Policy Alignment: Ensure models align with Austroads Guidelines, state transport plans, and sustainability goals.
  • Project Reporting & Recommendations: Prepare technical reports, presentations, and data-driven recommendations for decision-makers.


Skills & Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering, Transport Engineering, Urban Planning, or related fields.
  • Strong proficiency in transport modelling software such as VISUM, VISSIM, AIMSUN, SIDRA, or TransCAD.
  • Experience with GIS tools (ArcGIS, QGIS) and data analysis (Excel, Python, R, SQL is a plus).
  • Understanding of traffic engineering, public transport planning, and network optimisation.
  • Knowledge of Australian transport policies and infrastructure planning standards.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills.


Job Requirements:

  • 2-5 years of experience in transport modelling, traffic analysis, or transport planning.
  • Experience in multi-modal transport modelling, including public transport and pedestrian flows.
  • Ability to interpret and present complex data for decision-makers.
  • Willingness to collaborate with government agencies, councils, and private consultants.
