Transport Planner Jobs
A Transport Planner in Australia is responsible for developing and implementing transport strategies that improve mobility, reduce congestion, and promote sustainable transport solutions. They work on projects involving road networks, public transport systems, cycling infrastructure, and urban mobility planning.
Key Responsibilities:
- Transport Strategy Development: Plan and design transport networks that meet current and future demand.
- Traffic & Mobility Analysis: Assess road networks, public transport services, and pedestrian/cycling infrastructure.
- Public Transport Planning: Optimize bus, rail, and tram networks for efficiency and sustainability.
- Infrastructure Impact Assessment: Evaluate the effects of new developments on transport systems.
- Stakeholder Consultation: Collaborate with government agencies, local councils, and private sector partners.
- Sustainable Transport Solutions: Promote active transport (walking, cycling) and environmentally friendly mobility options.
- Data Collection & Modelling: Analyze travel behavior, conduct surveys, and use transport modelling tools.
- Policy & Compliance: Ensure projects align with Austroads Guidelines, National Transport Strategy, and local regulations.
Skills & Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Transport Planning, Urban Planning, Civil Engineering, or related fields.
- Knowledge of transport policies, urban mobility trends, and road network design.
- Experience with transport modelling software (e.g., VISUM, VISSIM, SIDRA, AIMSUN).
- Proficiency in GIS tools (ArcGIS, QGIS) and data analysis tools (Excel, Python, SQL is a plus).
- Strong problem-solving, analytical, and communication skills.
- Ability to develop and interpret transport policies, feasibility studies, and mobility plans.
Job Requirements:
- 2-5 years of experience in transport planning, urban mobility, or traffic management.
- Understanding of Australian transport planning standards and policies.
- Experience working with local councils, state transport authorities, or private consultancies.
- Ability to manage multiple projects and engage with stakeholders effectively.
