The job of an Electrical Engineer can be dangerous and complicated, so New Zealand Oil & Gas firms expect professionals to hold a relevant degree to prove their competency. In the case of Electrical Engineering, the four-year Bachelor of Engineering degree enables people to become a professional Engineer after completion. Alternatively, a three-year degree in Engineering Technology enables people to become an Engineering Technologist, and often work in more specialised fields.
Electrical Engineers can expect to conduct some or all of the following job responsibilities:
After being on the job for several years, many Electrical Engineers move into senior Engineering, managerial or Project Management roles. Alternatively, Engineers can also become consultants at engineering consultancy firms or move into other areas of Engineering, such as Environment, Mechanical or Civil.
