For that reason, New Zealand engineering firms look for candidates who hold a Diploma in Engineering, specialising in Mechanical Engineering. To further improve their employability, HVAC Engineers can then work towards completing the New Zealand Diploma in Engineering Practice to become a Certified Engineering Technician.

After a few years’ experience, HVAC Engineers can often move into supervisory or managerial roles within an Engineering firm. Alternatively, however, they can choose to become more specialist in areas that involve HVAC technology.
