Off-highway engineer Jobs

An Off-Highway Engineer in Australia is a specialized mechanical engineer who designs, develops, and tests vehicles and machinery not intended for use on public roads, such as mining equipment, agricultural machinery, construction vehicles, and specialized industrial machinery, focusing on factors like durability, performance in challenging terrain, and safety in harsh working conditions.

Key responsibilities of an Off-Highway Engineer in Australia:

Design and Development:

  • Create conceptual designs for new off-highway vehicles and machinery, considering factors like powertrain, chassis, suspension, and hydraulic systems based on client requirements and application needs.
  • Utilize computer-aided design (CAD) software to develop detailed 3D models and engineering drawings.
  • Analyze performance parameters like traction, stability, load capacity, and fuel efficiency through simulations and calculations.
  • Select appropriate components and materials considering wear resistance, durability, and environmental factors.

Testing and Validation:

  • Conduct field testing of prototypes in various terrains and operating conditions to evaluate performance and identify areas for improvement.
  • Monitor and analyze data collected from testing to ensure compliance with design specifications and safety standards.
  • Collaborate with testing teams to develop test protocols and procedures.

·

Technical Support:

  • Provide technical support to manufacturing teams during production, addressing design issues and ensuring quality control.
  • Assist with troubleshooting and maintenance of existing off-highway equipment in the field.

  • Design and engineer equipment to meet compliance standards.

Required Skills and Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, with a focus on design, dynamics, or heavy machinery preferred.
  • Strong understanding of mechanical principles, including power transmission, hydraulics, and chassis design.
  • Proficiency in CAD software (e.g., SolidWorks, Inventor)
  • Experience with engineering analysis tools (FEA, CFD) for performance optimization
  • Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills
  • Ability to work collaboratively with cross-functional teams including manufacturing, sales, and customer service
  • Experience with off-road vehicle testing and data analysis is a significant advantage
