To become a Planner, most New Zealand employers will expect you to have a Degree in Planning or Resource Management. A postgraduate qualification of the same nature can help you secure more senior-level Planning positions.
The day-to-day job responsibilities of a Planner can include the following:
Planners who wish to progress their careers further in Planning and Resource Management, can apply to New Zealand Planning Institute (NZPI) for membership to improve their chances of securing a job as an Intermediate Planner, and then a Senior Planner role later. After that, Planners can continue their careers and specialise further in Town, Urban or Recreational Planning, or even Policy Administration.
