A Telecommunications Rigger in Australia is a skilled tradesperson responsible for installing, maintaining, and repairing telecommunications equipment on towers and structures, often working at heights, by utilising rigging techniques and specialised tools to ensure proper placement and secure attachment of antennas, cables, and other related infrastructure, while adhering to strict safety protocols and industry standards; requiring a strong understanding of telecommunications systems and proficient use of lifting equipment.
Key responsibilities:
- Install, replace, and upgrade telecommunications equipment on towers, including antennas, cables, transmission lines, and associated hardware.
- Safely rig and lift heavy equipment using appropriate lifting gear, slings, and harnesses while working at heights.
- Access towers using climbing techniques and safety equipment to reach installation points.
- Inspect tower structures, identify potential hazards, and prepare the site for installation work.
- Ensure proper alignment and positioning of equipment according to specifications.
- Diagnose and repair faulty equipment on towers.
- Maintain accurate records of work performed, including equipment details and safety checks.
Required skills and qualifications:
- Knowledge of telecommunications systems, antenna types, cable installation, and tower construction.
- Proficiency in rigging techniques, including load calculations, sling selection, and proper anchoring methods.
- Valid working at heights permit and experience working on elevated structures.
- Strong commitment to safety procedures and adherence to relevant industry regulations.
- Ability to climb towers, lift heavy equipment, and work in physically demanding conditions.
- Ability to troubleshoot equipment issues and adapt to changing situations.
