Telecommunications Technician Jobs

A Telecommunications Technician in Australia is responsible for installing, maintaining, and repairing telecommunications systems and equipment, including cabling, network infrastructure, and associated devices like telephones, data transmission equipment, and fibre optic lines, across residential and commercial properties, ensuring proper functionality and adherence to industry standards and safety regulations; often requiring troubleshooting technical issues, reading blueprints, and utilising specialised testing tools to diagnose faults. 

Key Responsibilities:

• Installing new telecommunications systems and equipment, including cabling, network devices, and customer premises equipment (CPE) according to specifications and project plans.
• Performing routine maintenance checks, identifying and troubleshooting faults on existing telecommunications networks, repairing damaged cables and equipment, and replacing faulty components.
• Utilising specialised testing tools to locate and diagnose issues with network connectivity, signal strength, and data transmission. 
• Organising and labeling cables, ensuring proper routing and termination within network infrastructure.
• Maintaining detailed records of work performed, including equipment details, fault logs, and customer information.
• Adhering to relevant industry standards, safety procedures, and regulations regarding telecommunications installations.

Required skills and qualifications:

• Strong understanding of telecommunications principles, network protocols, cabling systems (copper and fiber optic), and related equipment. 
• Ability to diagnose and resolve complex technical issues with network connectivity and equipment malfunctions. 
• Comfortable with working at heights, in confined spaces, and performing physical tasks like cable pulling and ladder climbing. 
• High level of accuracy and precision when installing and connecting cables and equipment. 
• Effective communication skills to interact with customers, explain technical issues, and address concerns.
