General Manager - Lead a Multifaceted Operation in Papua New Guinea

An exciting opportunity exists for a seasoned General Manager to lead a large, multifaceted operation in Lae Province, Papua New Guinea. This diverse business spans forestry production, engineered wood manufacturing, hydroelectric power generation, cattle and poultry farming, and the management of a company-owned township. The role requires a commercially astute, hands-on leader with proven expertise in large-scale production environments, and the ability to lead a multi-national workforce while balancing complex operational, commercial, and cultural challenges.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Provide strategic and operational leadership across a vertically integrated, multi-sector enterprise
  • Oversee forestry harvesting, engineered wood production, hydroelectric generation, cattle and poultry operations, and township services
  • Manage multiple diverse revenue streams with a combined P&L exceeding USD $150 million
  • Lead and inspire a multi-national workforce, supported by experienced subject matter experts (SMEs) across each business unit
  • Drive initiatives that enhance efficiency, sustainability, safety, and profitability across all operations
  • Build capability within a culturally diverse workforce, mentoring local talent and ensuring long-term succession planning
  • Engage with executive leadership, government bodies, and community stakeholders to align operations with broader business objectives
What You Bring:
  • Proven senior leadership experience in large-scale production operations (industrial, manufacturing, agriculture, or resource sectors)
  • Demonstrated success managing multi-national teams across multiple disciplines and geographies
  • Track record overseeing complex businesses with P&L in excess of USD $150 million
  • Strong financial and commercial management capability with a focus on sustainable growth
  • Cultural awareness, adaptability, and an understanding of the nuances of expatriate leadership roles
  • Tertiary qualifications are advantageous but not essential
  • A professional history within the forestry / timber industry would also be advantageous
Why This Role?
This is a rare opportunity to take on a role of significant scope and impact, with operational responsibility across multiple industries and communities. Supported by specialist SMEs in each business stream, you will have both the autonomy and the resources to succeed. You'll be backed by an established executive team and rewarded with a comprehensive expatriate package including AUD salary, fully covered in-country expenses, furnished accommodation, vehicle, additional leave, and regular flights to and from your country of origin.
