The company

This organisation has been operating for over 20 years, enabling those with disability or injury to live better lives. This is done by providing modifications to their residences, which can be work or projects lasting from one day to several months. The company works closely with the Ministry of Health, DHBs, ACC, construction contractors and whanau to facilitate these alterations. Projects can range in value from $10-500k.

The position

The purpose of the position is to develop of architectural drawings that represent the modifications required to housing to address a client’s related needs. The position works directly with Assessors, Project Managers and clients to plan, design and advise on housing modifications and other structures. In the first instance plans are developed to a level that will allow prices estimates to be made and tenders to be submitted; subsequently plans are taken through to full building consent application standard and the position will manage this process.

This is a new position for the company in that this function has been outsourced for a number of years, they are bringing it back in-house. The salary for the position is $90-110k depending on experience.

The person

Applicants must have the following experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in architecture

  • NZ qualified Licenced Building Practitioner (LBP) – Design and NZ Registered Architect

  • At least 3 years of residential industry experience.

  • Thorough understanding of the New Zealand Building Code, Building Act 2004, NZS3604 and legislations.

  • Excellent technical skills and CAD software proficiency eg ArchiCAD, AutoCAD or similar

  • Strong mathematical skills

  • High level of attention to detail and quality

  • Confident in managing Resource and Building Consent process

  • Knowledge in organising and drafting complete sets of constructions documents for residential projects

  • Excellent relationship management skills, working with both clients and colleagues for the best results

  • Ability to create and understand site plans, floor plans, foundation plans, roof plans, construction detailing, bracing plans, electrical plans, joinery schedules and fire protection

  • Good customer service, communication, and interpersonal skills

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills

  • Excellent organisational skills and attention to detail

  • Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite

  • Strong organisational skills with the ability to manage wide a range of projects

  • Ability to work independently

  • NZ Drivers Licence
