The position

RobLawMax have been retained by D&H to source a Drawing Office Manager. This is a new position, created due to increased workload and company growth. The position is currently part of a senior leader’s role and will operate as 2IC to him. There will be a handover period and coaching available to ensure continuity of output and success.

Leading a team of 9 structural steel detailers and 6 subcontract detailing companies, the job holder will be responsible for the overall planning, resourcing and management of the detailing workforce for upcoming project workload and business strategic planning.

​Working alongside the Project Managers, Planners and Estimators in the preparation and resourcing of the detailing for tender and contract delivery programmes, you will monitor programme and budget progress against each of the contract deliverables.

​The salary on offer is dependent on skills and experience, but will be in the range of $100-130k plus car allowance, company profit related bonus scheme, medical insurance, life insurance and permanent disability insurance.

The person

Suitable candidates for the position will have a design (detailing, or engineering or architectural) background with team management, operational and strategic planning experience. What’s key for success in the role is the ability to manage the day-to-day aspects of the drawing office function (people management, resourcing and issue resolution) combined with the ability to see the bigger picture for longer term planning.


Skills and experience required

  • A minimum of 5 years experience in a team management position relating to construction design

  • A high level of IT literacy, able to utilise technology systems to their potential

  • Tertiary qualification to degree/diploma level in a relevant business discipline OR high-level direct leadership experience

  • Great relationship management and great communication skills

  • Enthusiasm and drive to deliver the best solutions while up against tight deadlines

  • Disciplined and self-motivated with a positive approach to work

  • Sound knowledge of the design processes involved in the construction industry

  • No specific steel experience is essential to be considered for the role, but it will be beneficial
