There are very few residential builders in Auckland who have achieved and more importantly retained this level of service. One of the key factors in their success is solid set of values and growing organically, not just hiring for the sake of it because the market is busy. They have a low turnover of staff and a strong forward workload.

The position

The Operations Manager provides leadership to all areas of the company: land / civil, design, planning, project / construction management, QS / commercial and support / admin staff. This role leads several teams that are responsible for ensuring company performance targets are achieved. This role also ensures customer satisfaction targets are reached, and is responsible for deputising for the MD when required.

The person

Applicants must have the following experience in order to be considered:

  • Experience of working in a similar position, either in the commercial or residential company in NZ

  • A track record of successfully managing, leading and motivating diverse teams

  • Ability translate strategy into implementation and motivating people to execute the work

  • Significant experience managing operational budgets and providing forecasts

  • Proven ability to improve systems and increase effectiveness and efficiency

  • Ability to clear a path through ambiguity and evolving plans

  • Clear and effective communication to a variety of audiences, including written and verbal

  • Good understanding of contractual elements; spotting issues and resolving

  • Previous experience in leading an organisation through transformative change

  • Proven experience in delivering calm leadership in a high-pressure environment

  • Preferably industry experience in construction in residential projects, over all aspects of construction projects

  • Advanced communication skills and stakeholder management skills

  • Understanding of NZ health and safety requirements both legally and industry specific

  • Has run operations before for organisations who deliver products direct to customers (or deliver direct to customer via suppliers)

  • Is comfortable leading across many work streams, not getting lost in technical detail

What’s the low-down?

This is a senior role with a senior salary. Base salary is $200-250k with vehicle and bonus, total package circa $300k at the top end.
